A bomb attack on a mosque in the town of Shibam in northern Yemen has left several casualties.
Local residents said the attack was carried out while Muslim worshipers in the mosque were participating in Friday prayers.
Shibam is a city located about 40 kilometers (25 miles) west of the capital, Sana’a, in the Mahwit region of Hadhramaut Province.
The mosque attacked in Shibam on Friday is usually frequented by supporters of the Houthi Ansarullah movement.
Ansarullah’s main objective has been to eradicate militancy in Yemen, a country known as the origin and one of the major sanctuaries of al-Qaeda.
On March 26, the regime in Riyadh launched its military aggression against Yemen with the aim of undermining Houthis and restoring power to the fugitive former president, Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi.

Over 7,100 people have been killed and more than a million have been displaced since the Saudi aggression began, with militant groups, either al-Qaeda-related or those linked with Hadi, targeting civilians and security forces.
