A group of university academics and students, human rights activists and Shia and Sunni social activists forwarded a letter to Iyad bin Amin Madani to appeal for his help stop Saudi government from execution of Shia religious leader Shiekh Nimr.

'As your excellency are well aware, killing individuals for expression of their beliefs, or merely because of participation in peaceful demonstration is not against the internationally declared human rights principle and the Islamic beliefs, as they are reiterated in the Cairo Islamic Human Rights Declaration,' reads the letter in part.

Brother of Sheikh Namar a couple of days ago in Cairo described the verdict as unjust and called for his brother's immediate release.
