IRAQI ARMY CLOSE TO COMPLETELY LIBERATING WESTERN RAMADI FROM DAESH

Iraqi troops are ready to fully reclaim the western part of the central Iraqi city of Ramadi as part of a large-scale campaign to retake the capital of the Anbar province

Lt. Gen. Abdul-Ghani Asadi an anti-terror commander told Sputnik on Monday that he estimated up to 70 percent of the neighborhood’s eight blocks in the city’s Tamim district have been cleared of militants.

"We are closer to completely liberating the western part of the city and taking it under control," Asadi said of the operation against Daesh, also known as ISIL or the so-called “Islamic State” terrorist group.

He expressed hope in the army's ability to liberate eastern Ramadi shortly and establish control over 80 percent of the entire city.

Up to 10,000 Iraqi security forces are estimated to be taking part in the offensive to reclaim Ramadi with backing from the Shiite Popular Mobilization Forces and Sunni tribal fighters.

Meanwhile The Iraqi Army and police repelled a massive attack by Daesh terrrorists in the Anbar province in Western Iraq.

"The ISIL terrorists intended to carry out massive attacks on different locations in Anbar province with seven bomb-laden vehicles," Commander of Anbar Operations Jamal al-Dailami told FARS News.

He added that the militants were also planning attacks on two headquarters of the Iraqi Army and federal police, 35 kilometers to the west of Ramadi.

Nine killed, 33 hurt in bombings, shooting in, around Iraqi capital

On the other hand today so-far at least nine people have been killed and nearly three dozen others injured in separate bomb and shooting attacks in and around the Iraqi capital city of Baghdad, security and medical sources say.

At least two civilians lost their lives and eight others sustained injuries when an improvised explosive device went off close to a popular restaurant near the Diyala Bridge in southeastern Baghdad on Sunday, PRESS TV quoted the Arabic-language al-Baghdadia satellite television network reported.

A police officer also died and four others were injured when a roadside bomb exploded in the town of Abu Ghraib, located some 25 kilometers (15 miles) west of Baghdad.

Earlier on Sunday, a bombing attack struck a commercial district in the capital’s eastern Camp Sarah district, leaving a civilian dead and six others injured.

Additionally, a civilian was killed and two others were injured when an improvised explosive device attached beneath their car went off in Nahrwan, situated about 40 kilometers east of Baghdad,

A bomb also targeted a civilian car in the town of Madain, about 20 kilometers (14 miles) southeast of the capital, killing one person.

Separately, unidentified assailants gunned down a lawyer in the town of Latifiya, situated about 30 kilometers south of Baghdad, on Sunday.

A civilian was killed and six others were wounded when a bomb attack hit a commercial district in Baghdad’s eastern neighborhood of al-Amin.

Additionally, a bomb went off in the al-Obaidi neighborhood of southern Baghdad, leaving a civilian dead and seven others injured.

The United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq says a total of 714 Iraqis were killed and 1,269 wounded in acts of terrorism, violence and armed conflict in October alone.

According to the UN mission, the number of civilian fatalities stood at 559. Violence also claimed the lives of 155 members of the Iraqi security forces. A great portion of the fatalities was recorded in Baghdad, where 298 civilians were killed.

The northern and western parts of Iraq have been plagued by violence ever since Takfiri Daesh militants began their march through the Iraqi territory in June 2014. Army soldiers and Popular Mobilization units have joined forces and are seeking to take back terrorist-held regions in joint operations.
