A funeral procession has been held for an Iranian defender of the holy shrine of Hazrat Zeinab, the granddaughter of the Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him), in Syria.

The body of Hojatoleslam Ali Tamam-Zadeh, who was recently killed defending the holy shrine against Takfiri terrorist groups in the northern Syrian province of Aleppo, was laid to rest on Wednesday in the north-central Iranian province of Alborz.

Senior Iranian officials and military commanders as well as people from all walks of life attended the burial.

Last month, the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) senior commander Brigadier General Hossein Hamedani was killed by Daesh terrorists on the outskirts of the city of Aleppo. Iran has sent military advisers to Syria to help in the fight against terrorists wreaking havoc in the conflict-stricken country.

The Islamic Republic has stipulated that Tehran will step in if the Daesh Takfiris advance to within 40 kilometers of the country’s borders or move to desecrate the holy Shia shrines in Syria and Iraq.

The foreign-sponsored conflict in Syria, which flared in March 2011, has thus far claimed the lives of more than 250,000 people and left over one million injured, according to the United Nations.

The Daesh terrorists, many of whom were initially trained by the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) in Jordan in 2012 to destabilize Syria, now control parts of Iraq and neighboring Syria. They have been committing crimes against humanity in the areas under their control.
